The name “Soumra” originated back in 2000 when Bill was looking for the perfect name to describe his first love….Pharaoh Hounds. Soumra, means “brilliant red color; fiery; Godlike.” What better way to describe the most magnificent Sighthound of them all! Throughout the years, Soumra was very fortunate to produce and consistently have “Top 10” dogs in the country in venues such as conformation, lure coursing, straight and oval racing, and obedience. Life changes as do one’s perspective for what we WANT and what will FULFILL us as an individual. Bill decided to take a 5 year hiatus from all competition and focused on living life to the fullest with his partner and pets. During this time, he was blessed to acquire his first Frenchie, Oink. He immediately fell head over heels in love with this incredible breed and decided to once again venture into the crazy world of conformation and performance. We started with Oink, who finished her AKC conformation title but absolutely HATED IT!
It’s quite unfortunate, as she embodies EVERYTHING that you would want in a French Bulldog...correct body type, beautiful head, expressive, highly intelligent, loyal, comical, independent, and full of life and love with an available belly for anyone to rub at anytime!!! She was our “foundation” bitch and all of our Frenchies, who reside in our home, are either children or grandchildren of Oink!
Our Frenchies are part of our family and live IN OUR HOME. They are our companions and our children. WE ARE NOT A KENNEL!
We believe this breed should be AVAILABLE to all and not just to the households with “deep pockets.” It amazes us the price that some people will charge for their Frenchies, especially those who don’t perform the necessary and "preventative" testing or strive to create undesirable colors. While I own and cherish a rescued blue French Bulldog, I personally don’t care for the new FAD COLORS currently being bred for an outrageous amount of money.
All adults in our household are CERF, BAER, OFA, and cardiac tested if they are going to be used in a breeding program. While this is not a 100% guarantee, I believe that anyone breeding French Bulldogs should perform preventative tests to ensure genetically healthy companions. It should be a priority and is what separates QUALITY and a LOVE vs. back yard breeding or a kennel. Some breeder’s advertise, “you get what you pay for.” Please make sure to ask these “breeders” exactly what you’re getting for the price of their puppy.
We will, on occasion have companion/ “show prospect” puppies available to approved homes.
